Section 4: Ritual Practices

Weekly:

• Light Shabbat candles and recite blessings;
• Recite blessing over grape juice (short kiddish);
• Recite blessing over challah or bread (motzi);

Annually:

• Participate in a Passover Seder (at home or in someone else’s home or at synagogue);
• Light Hanukkah menorah and recite appropriate blessings.

One-Time Home Ritual:

• Affix a mezuzah on your doorpost

Annual Rituals at Synagogue:

• Hear shofar blown;
• Shake Lulav & Etrog & sit in Sukkah; Drown out name of Haman;
• Attend Tu B’shivat seder.

Living Judaism: Engagement with Jewish Values. We will discuss how to do this in class.

Personal Tikkun Olam Project:

Each student is expected to create a personal tikkun olam project or participate in an on-going one. We will discuss how to do this in class.

D’var Torah: Each b. mitzvah candidate will present a d’var torah to the community on the occasion of becoming a b. mitzvah. We will discuss how to do this in class.
